Bird's Beak Games

This is a very exciting download, but it does require a minimal level of manual dexterity and understanding. It uses our Bird's Beak design to learn about halves and quarters, even when you're  making it. And then play the game with a friend!

Access the inside of the beak and find the Odd One Out, saying why it is different... and check for more odd ones too amongst the variety of 8 fruits and their fractions. There are no right or wrong answers... only True answers.

There are 6 pre-designed Beaks to choose from, with increasing levels of difficulty from recognising fractions to spotting the Odd One Out. Or use the Blank beak and design your own games!

Card Games

Matching Card games, such as Snap, are a great way to reinforce learning about the 8 fruits included and their fractions. With our cards, there are no right or wrong answers... only 'true' answers, so differing abilities can play the same game and learn from each other.

Card games can be printed and cut into 'snap' cards, so we have supplied different layouts to help you efficiently print the items that best suit your needs. So some sheets have 12 of the same item on them, maybe whole apples, halves or quarters / bits, while other sheets contain some whole fruits and their halves and quarters / bits when you want a few of each fraction.

These sheets have been designed for UK A4 paper size using PDF Print settings of 100% with Page Scaling set to 'None'. Instructions are suggested for US paper sizes, Legal and Letter.

Printing onto 200g card is recommended to ensure that the image doesn't show through on the reverse side. Then games, such as Pairs, can be played fairly with the picture side facing downwards.

Download and make 7cm x 7cm (2.75inch x 2.75inch)  cards, and laminate if required. Encourage discussion with matching games like Snap... suggesting reasons why things are the same, or why they are different.

Use in conjunction with our free Matching Boards.

Card games can be made by printing and cutting into cards. Match same fruit... or wholes, halves, quarters and bits... or combinations...
Labels

Matching cards can be laminated and, with a bit of velcro on both surfaces, used as labels for drinks' bottles.

Choose 2 drinks of a similar colour and fill the bottles up to the same level, so that the only way of recognising the different drinks is by noticing the label.

This is particularly good to encourage  autistic children to look at the picture on the label, and to use this information in order to get the drink that they want. But make sure you don't get them muddled up!

Clearly children, or adults, may be attracted to the difference in colour on the labels, so if you think that this may be the case, then print out a few labels using printer options for 'grayscale' or 'sepia' instead of 'colour'.

Cut 'n' Stick

Select a smaller magnification, or print more than one page per sheet, for Cut and Stick activities: perhaps designing other Odd One Out games; perhaps answering questions like how many halves? There are no limits here but imagination...

Select a Print Quality of Fast to reduce the amount of ink used, particularly for these cut and stick activities.

Greeting Cards

Our Join the Dots Greeting Cards encourage talking about special occasions, such as a Birthday or Christmas, or for Mother's Day or a Get Well Soon message.

Choose whether to write your message in a blank space, on dotted lines or in a box. Some children find the notion of writing in a blank space very difficult to understand, and would be best suited to using either the Lines or the Box.

Choose from 12 different fruits to find by joining up the dots and colouring in... or maybe you will leave it for Granny, or your friend, to join the dots when they receive it in the post?

Print your Greeting Card, and make it up, by folding it in half... twice
